About Halal Glasgow — Zara’s Story

Glasgow, Scotland · Built with love by a local, for the community

👋 Hi, I’m Zara

I’m a Glaswegian, born and raised. This city is in my bones — the noise of it, the warmth of the people, the food. Glasgow has always had an incredible food scene, and the halal food scene in this city is something I’ve grown up with, loved and watched evolve over the years.

But for a long time, finding great halal food in Glasgow meant relying on word of mouth, WhatsApp groups, or hoping for the best. You’d ask your auntie, or text a friend, or just take a chance on somewhere new. And sometimes it worked. And sometimes you’d end up somewhere that said halal on the sign but couldn’t tell you the first thing about their certification.

That frustration is why I built Halal Glasgow.

🍽️ Why I’m Excited to Share This

Glasgow’s halal food scene is genuinely brilliant — and massively underrated. We have Michelin-recommended Indian restaurants that are halal-certified. We have Pakistani karahis in Pollokshields that will blow your mind. We have Lebanese shawarma wraps in the city centre that cost £6 and taste like they should cost three times that. We have Sri Lankan street food that only opened in 2026 and is already one of the most exciting things happening in the West End.

Govanhill and Pollokshields alone are a halal food lover’s dream — two of the most diverse, vibrant, community-driven neighbourhoods in Scotland, packed with authentic food from Pakistan, India, the Middle East and beyond. I want to shine a light on all of it.

I’m excited because this city deserves a proper guide. Not a list of random TripAdvisor entries. A real, honest, verified, community-built guide to every halal restaurant, takeaway, breakfast spot, budget bite and family dinner in Glasgow — from the cheapest chicken shop to the finest dining room. That’s what I’m building here.
